Australia 8/1 in 3.4 Overs | West Indies vs Australia 1st Test Live Score: Pat Cummins wins toss, opts to bat

West Indies vs Australia 1st Test Live Score: Australia, still recovering from a recent WTC final defeat, have made several changes to their squad, wtth some by choice and others due to injury. Speaking about Marnus Labuschagne’s omission from the squad for the West Indies tour, Aussie skipper Pat Cummins said that while Labuschagne is undoubtedly a Test batter of international calibre at his best, he now needs to earn his place back in the side.

With Usman Khawaja and Travis Head the only seasoned names in a relatively inexperienced top six, the Aussie batting looks shaky, but their bowling attack remains elite. The tried and tested quartet of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon needs no introduction. They remain dangerous and capable of turning games on their own.

West Indies, meanwhile, are looking to rewrite history. It’s been a long wait since they last beat Australia in a home series, but under new skipper Roston Chase, there’s hope. The Windies have a good blend of experience and hunger, with Kraigg Brathwaite, Shai Hope, and Alzarri Joseph bringing the know-how, while fresh faces like Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales bring the fire. Shamar, in particular, will have his eyes on another impactful showing after tearing through Australia in Brisbane.

Conditions could play a big role here. If the pitch offers anything to the seamers, both sides have the firepower to exploit it. But with both batting line-ups facing pressure, it could come down to who holds their nerve longer. Australia have opted to bat first after winning the toss — and the stage is set for a fascinating five days of Test cricket.
