Anshula Kapoor, daughter of film producer Boney Kapoor and his first wife Mona Shourie Kapoor, has opened up about the emotional trauma she experienced as a child after her parents’ separation. In a recent interview, Anshula revealed that at just six years old, she believed she was the reason her parents parted ways.“As a 6-year-old I thought before me, their life was all hunky dory and I came to their life and suddenly they don’t belong together. I thought, maybe, I was not a good enough daughter,” Anshula shared with Pinkvilla. The feelings of self-blame only intensified after her father welcomed Janhvi Kapoor with his second wife, actor Sridevi. “I know it sounds horrible,” she added, “but when Jaanu (Janhvi Kapoor) was born, I felt like maybe something was wrong with me.”‘That was one part of my trauma I had to deal with’Anshula clarified that both her parents, Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie, made it a point to explain that she was never the cause of their separation. However, as a young child, she struggled to process the situation in a healthy way. “I do not believe that anymore,” she said, “but it was a child trying to figure out what went wrong and thinking maybe I only went wrong.”She also speculated that her thoughts might have been influenced by adult conversations she overheard. “Maybe I heard some conversation with some aunty or friend. I may have heard some random words from their conversation and cooked something entirely different in my head,” she said. “That was one part of my trauma I had to deal with. I have addressed this with my siblings, family, and parents.”
A blended family and quiet resilienceBoney Kapoor married Mona Shourie in 1983, and the couple had two children—Arjun Kapoor and Anshula. They separated in 1996, the same year Boney married Sridevi. He later welcomed two daughters with Sridevi—Janhvi in 1997 and Khushi a few years later.Though Anshula largely stays out of the public eye, she has been candid about her journey of healing and self-discovery. Most recently, she appeared on Amazon Prime Video’s reality show The Traitors, where she further stepped into the limelight.
