Amitabh Bachchan recalls late filmmaker Yash Johar: That beautiful smile has not faded from memory - Exclusive

Some names need no introduction, and Yash Johar is certainly one of them. The late legendary filmmaker touched many lives with his work and left a lasting impression on the industry people as well. Thus, recently, on his death anniversary, when we connected with Amitabh Bachchan to share some beautiful memories of Yash Johar with us, his instant reaction was – “Gosh, how many years has it been since we lost him?” “That beautiful smile has not faded from memory. We need that smile more than ever before, now in these troubled times,” he added. Further, spilling the tea on how he and Yash Johar came to know each other, Amitabh shared, “I am proud to say I was a part of his first independent production, Dostana. I knew him through his wife Hiroo, who is again an exemplary woman. She was part of my circle of friends when we were all young and adventurous.” “Hiroo is an amazing woman and was a terrific partner to Yashji. They were inseparable. My wife Jaya and I remain close to Hiroo and, of course, her son, whom we all know as Karan Johar,” he added. After Dostana, Amitabh Bachchan worked with Hiroo Johar’s son Karan Johar in ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.’ While speaking about it, Big B shared, “It was amazing to see that boy (KJo) in shorts grow into a filmmaker of such potential. Karan was very nervous initially when he started shooting with Jaya and me. But as the film progressed, he became progressively confident.” However, there was something that troubled not just Amitabh Bachchan but also his wife during the shoot. He said, “Jaya and I were very upset about the way we were forced to accept money for the film. It’s very difficult for us to discuss money with either Adi (Chopra) or Karan. It’s like negotiating money with our son Abhishek.”“To see Karan grow into such a fine human being and such a successful entertainer must be making his father smile from up there,” concluded Amitabh Bachchan.
