As the film reaches this milestone, Amitabh Bachchan reflects on the enduring legacy of ‘Sarkar’. In a candid conversation with us, he reminisced about the powerful character of Subhash Nagare, a figure who resonated deeply with audiences. Subhash Nagre: Was the character inspired by a real-life politician? Was it similar to ‘The Godfather’?
Further, as Big B recalled his character of Subhash Nagre in the movie, he put all the rumours to rest by saying that he wasn’t inspired by any real-life politician.“Subhash Nagare was his own man. People also said the character was similar to Francis Coppola’s The Godfather. I was not aware of any similarity to extraneous sources. For me, Subhash Nagare was a man of the masses, much loved, even when functioning outside the law,” mentioned Mr. Bachchan.
The movie that brought the father-son duo together in one frame
There were many elements of the movie that captivated the audience, one of which was the fact that it brought Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan together on the big screen. Speaking about it, he shared, “Sarkar was a turning point in his (Abhishek Bachchan’s) life as an actor. His performance filled me with pride. We had just finished Bunty Aur Babli, which was a fun film, and we weren’t cast as father and son in it.” “Sarkar was a complete departure for our onscreen equation,” he concluded.
