Playback singer Amit Kumar, son of the iconic Kishore Kumar, recently addressed some of the longstanding rumours and misconceptions people have had about his father. He recently debunked a few popular myths surrounding Kishore, particularly the claim that he kept skulls and bones to ward off unwanted visitors.Amit about his father keeping skullsIn a conversation with Vickey Lalwani, Amit spoke about the rumour that Kishore kept skulls and bones to scare people away. “Woh toh hum lekar aaye thay. Hum log show karne gaye thay East Africa, Nairobi. Wahan par he had that hobby of collecting and buying such curios… toh wapas aate waqt hum sab lekar aaye thay. In fact, abhi bhi hai woh, in the trust,” he revealed.

He elaborated on Kishore’s deep appreciation for African culture, highlighting his particular interest in African music and art, especially his fondness for beads and traditional elements.Amit talks about his Kishore’s eccentric natureAmit dismissed the tales of eccentricity, saying, “Woh khud par mazak karte thay… he was like, ‘Theek hai, duniya kehti mujhe pagal, main kehta hoon duniya ko pagal… bolne do pagal… achha hai, kyun na’.”He further recalled a humorous incident in which producer SD Narang, curious about Kishore’s supposed eccentricities, visited him and began stomping on the floor, suspecting a hidden trapdoor. Kishore laughed and reassured him that no such thing existed.Kishore passed away from a heart attack in October 1987. In an old interview with Rediff, Amit revealed that Kishore seemed to have a sixth sense about his death. On that day, he was anxious about Amit’s flight from Canada and prevented his son Sumeet from going swimming. Despite showing symptoms of a heart attack, he joked about needing a doctor. He was laughing and talking with his wife Leena Chandavarkar when he suddenly collapsed—and at first, she thought he was joking.
