American Express Unveils Biggest Ever Platinum Card® Upgrades for U.S. Consumers and Businesses — Coming Late 2025
NEW YORK, June 16, 2025 – American Express (NYSE: AXP) has announced sweeping updates to its U.S. Consumer and Business Platinum Cards®, set to roll out later this year. Touted as the largest investment in a Card refresh in company history, these upgrades will redefine the premium card experience across travel, dining, lifestyle, and business benefits.
“We’re taking the Platinum Card to the next level,” said Howard Grosfield, Group President of U.S. Consumer Services. “These enhancements are designed to meet the evolving expectations of today’s Card Members — especially Millennials and Gen Z, who made up 35% of U.S. consumer spending last quarter.”
Key Platinum Card® Enhancements Coming in 2025:
✈️ Expanded Airport Lounge Access
American Express already leads the credit card industry in airport lounge benefits, offering access to more than 1,550 lounges in 500+ airports worldwide. The refresh includes three new Centurion Lounge openings in:
Newark, New Jersey
Salt Lake City, Utah
Tokyo, Japan
This will bring the global Centurion Lounge count to 32 by the end of next year.
🍽️ Enhanced Dining & Hotel Perks
Amex is doubling down on its dining ecosystem:
Resy now spans 20,000+ restaurants in over 30 countries.
The acquisition of Tock adds 7,000 new venues, including wineries and event spaces.
On the travel side, the Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection programs have grown to 2,600+ curated properties, with hundreds more coming soon. Fine Hotels + Resorts continues to offer exclusive perks — including guaranteed 4 p.m. late check-out at 1,600+ global locations, a benefit unmatched by any other card issuer.
🧳 Business Platinum Card Upgrades
Designed to support growth-minded entrepreneurs, the updated Business Platinum Card® will provide:
Dynamic spending limits based on business history
Enhanced cash flow tools
Virtual cards for employee use
Access to the same elevated travel, dining, and lounge benefits as consumer cards
🎟️ Exclusive Experiences
From Formula 1 and tennis to music festivals and major sporting events, Amex Platinum Card Members will gain access to an expanding list of exclusive experiences backed by Amex’s award-winning service. Additional brand partnerships and experiences are expected to be revealed in fall 2025.
Why This Matters
These upgrades underscore American Express’s strategy to differentiate through premium value and lifestyle offerings, especially as younger consumers dominate spending trends and seek travel, dining, and digital convenience.
