A passenger plane bound for London, tragically crashed into a residential area of Meghani Nagar shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday (June 12). The aircraft, reportedly carrying 242 passengers, including infants, and 2 pilots as well as 10 crew members, issued a “MAYDAY” call to Air Traffic Control just minutes into its flight before losing contact and plummeting to the ground in Gujarat. “We are continuing to process data from receiver sources individually. Additional processing confirms #AI171 departed using the full length of Runway 23 at Ahmedabad. RWY 23 is 11,499 feet long. The aircraft backtracked to the end of the runway before beginning its take off roll,” Flightradar said.
