Air India plane crash: Government says formal probe launched; forming expert panel to examine incident

NEW DELHI: Hours after the Air India plane crashed in Ahmedabad, the government has swiftly moved to initiate a formal investigation, as announced by civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has been tasked with leading the inquiry, adhering to international protocols established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). “Following the tragic incident in Ahmedabad, a formal investigation has been initiated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), in line with international protocols set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),” said Naidu. In addition to the AAIB’s investigation, a high-level committee is being constituted. This committee will comprise experts from various disciplines, bringing together a wealth of knowledge and experience to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Additionally, the government is constituting a high-level committee comprising experts from multiple disciplines to examine the matter in detail. The committee will work to strengthen aviation safety and prevent such incidents in future,” the civil aviation minister added to his statement. The Air India flight bound for London crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, striking the residential quarters of doctors from BJ Medical College in the Meghaninagar area. The aircraft lost control during its initial ascent, resulting in significant damage to a hostel building. Emergency services responded promptly to the site, attending to victims and assessing the extent of the destruction. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
