NEW DELHI: An Air India flight crashed on Thursday, shortly after a few minutes of takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The plane crashed into a hostel building. The London-bound aircraft plunged into the Meghani area of the city, sending up a massive plume of black smoke and triggering an immediate emergency response.An eye witness said that he firstly heard the massive sound and later wen he came came out, saw a layer of thick smoke in the air, dead bodies and debris from the crashed aircraft were scattered all over. “I was at home when we heard a massive sound. When we went out to see what had happened, there was a layer of thick smoke in the air. When we came here, dead bodies and debris from the crashed aircraft were scattered all over,” an eye witness. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze, said fire officer Jayesh Khadia.Several injured persons were taken to city civil hospital, an official said.Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Union home minister Amit Shah and civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu. He has asked them to go to Ahmedabad and ensure all possible assistance is extended to those affected in the wake of the air mishap
