Aamir Khan opens up about Shah Rukh Khan and 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge': 'Main Usse Thodi Compete Kar Raha Hu?'
In the 1990s, Shah Rukh, Salman, and Aamir Khan rose to fame together. Aamir views their rivalry as healthy competition focused on self-improvement. He admires Shah Rukh’s ‘DDLJ’ and hopes to collaborate with both Khans soon, while Salman and Shah Rukh have shared several hit films.

During the 1990s, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan all gained immense popularity simultaneously. It was inevitable that they would be compared to each other and viewed as rivals. However, Aamir’s perspective on this rivalry during their career peaks was unique and focused more on individual growth than competition.Healthy Competition Among the KhansTalking to Raj Shamani on his podcast, Aamir discussed his role as a member of the iconic Bollywood trio. He explained that while there was competition among them, it was always healthy and never took on a negative tone.Khan expressed that it is only natural for actors to desire success and appreciation from their fans. He remarked, “Har koi ye chahta hai ki sabse zyada wo successful ho, sabse zyada log uske kaam ko pasand kare, aur ye acchi baatein hoti hai,” highlighting that seeking recognition and love is a positive and common aspiration among performers.Competition Rooted in Self-Improvement, Not JealousyHe clarified that jealousy or rivalry has never fueled his ambition. He said, “Main negative kaam kar hi nahi sakta. Meri taraf se competition hamesha healthy raha hai. Mujhe dusron ke kaam se inspiration milti hai, unki success se kabhi pareshaan nahi hota. Mera competition khud se hota hai,” emphasizing that his competition is always with himself and that he draws inspiration from others’ achievements without feeling threatened.Admiration for Shah Rukh Khan’s Landmark Film DDLJAamir reflected on his experience of watching ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’, a film that became a cultural landmark and elevated Shah Rukh Khan to legendary status. He admitted, “Mujhe ye nahi tha ki main DDLJ jaisi badi romantic film karu kyuki mujhe wo film achi lagti hai. SRK ne bahut kamaal ka kaam kiya hai. Bahut achi lagti hai mujhe, mujhe bhi dekh ke mazaa aata hai. To main usse thodi compete kar raha hu,” highlighting that his feelings stemmed from respect and enjoyment rather than rivalry.Desire for a Khan Trio CollaborationMeanwhile, Aamir recently expressed his desire to collaborate with fellow Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh and Salman on a film. He mentioned that they are currently on the lookout for the perfect script. Speaking at a fan event just before turning 60, Aamir noted that audiences are equally excited about the idea of the three Khans sharing the big screen.Past Collaborations Among the KhansAlthough Aamir Khan and Salman Khan famously starred together in the 1994 cult classic ‘Andaz Apna Apna’, Aamir has yet to act alongside Shah Rukh Khan. Meanwhile, Salman and Shah Rukh have shared the screen in several popular films, including ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam’, and ‘Pathaan’.
