Visitors to Boston’s ‘Cheers’ bar remember actor George Wendt in wake of passing
Many expressed shock and sadness after hearing of the passing of George Wendt, an actor best known for playing Norm on the television show “Cheers.”Wendt, a six-time Emmy Award-nominated actor, died Tuesday at the age of 76. The legendary Cheers bar in Boston, where the show was notably set, set up a memorial in honor of Wendt at his character’s seat at the end of the bar. “It is sad, but I feel kind of honored to mark this point in time. Great cast and great show,” said tourist Rosanna Malcolm.Cheers bar manager Jeff Poirier remembered the times Wendt came to visit, saying the irony of his May 20 passing fell on the same day as the final taping of the show, 32 years ago in 1993.The bar said it plans on further honoring Wendt’s memory in the coming days.
