Five major food and medication recalls made headlines this month, for reasons ranging from undeclared allergens and bacterial contamination to unapproved ingredients and failed drug requirements.

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries recalled certain bottles of the prescription ADHD medication lisdexamfetamine dimesylate, a generic version of Vyvanse. The drug “failed dissolution specifications,” meaning it didn’t dissolve as expected in the lab—which could make it less effective.

The FDA gave the recall the second-highest risk level, Class II, which indicates a low risk of serious health consequences but a potential for temporary or reversible effects.

“While recall notifications can be frightening, it’s important to contact your healthcare provider right away for advice before making any changes to your medication routine,” Jennifer Young, PharmD, BCPS, CSP, lead medication safety specialist at the Institute for Safe Medication Practices, told Health. “Some medicines … should not be stopped suddenly.”

On Nov. 3, the FDA announced a recall of three tomato sauces produced by First and Last Bakery, LLC, and distributed in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The recalled sauce may contain Clostridium botulinum, bacteria that can cause botulism, a potentially deadly form of food poisoning. If you have the recalled tomato sauce, return it for a refund, and monitor for symptoms of botulism.

A select number of Häagen-Dazs ice cream bars were recalled on Nov. 3 for containing an undeclared allergen: wheat. The products were sold at Kroger and Giant Eagle stores across the country. No illnesses have been reported, but the ice cream bars pose the risk of severe allergic reactions for those with wheat allergies, so toss or return them right away.

Later in the month, more ice cream bars were recalled nationwide—this time from the brand Jeni’s. During manufacturing, a crunch topping from a separate product was mistakenly added to a batch of Jeni’s Passion Fruit Dreamsicle Ice Cream Bars, resulting in undeclared wheat and soy—both of which are allergens. If you have the recalled bars, return them for a refund.
