Five people died after a collision between a train and a vehicle in Gary, Indiana late Wednesday night.

The South Shore Line eastbound train 133 was stopped just west of Miller Station after the crash at 11:10  p.m.

The Lake County Coroner’s office confirmed five bodies were recovered from the crash site. It is not clear if the victims were inside the car or the train at the time of the crash.

The victims have not been identified.

The South Shore Line did not specify what kind of train was involved in the crash. But the line said train traffic was halted in the area while crews assessed the situation.
